The bartender made excellent martinis, and understood our preference for "snowflakes." He was attentive during our happy hour and dinner. We both enjoyed our entrees, and the quiet jazz music in the background. We have not a bad word to say about any of that. But, when we got the bill, it had a mandatory 18% tip already added. My wife and I are both work at a bar, and had intended to include a cash tip in excess of the 18%. But if the management insists on an 18% tip, so be it! That was all we left. We HATE mandatory tipping and fees, even though we typically tip higher. We had an otherwise nice experience, but we won't be back, ever.
This was my first time ever in Austin. The food was superb and the wine was delightful to my palate. The bartender-waitress, Lori was amazing. She has the menu and drink list memorized. I don't think I ever saw her write down an order. I was a waitress in my earlier years and for her to recite, remember, and execute your order is talented. On one occasion my order was not up of good standards. She apologized, had it remade, and compensated me for the inconvenience. She didn't know that I was having a migraine and was very irritated so I thank her for ensuring all was well before I went to my room. Lori's overall attitude during my stay was beyond exceptional. Thank you Lori for allowing me to enjoy a wonderful experience. On another not there was another waitress whom provided me not so good service when I ordered the wing plate and the fries were different from the night before. I asked if i could get those and she insisted there were only that kind. I even asked to speak with a mgr or the cook to better explain myself due to it seemed as though she didn't speak English as a second language. So, on that occasion I was not satisfied. But overall my experience was great. Thank you.
10$ fresh breakfast, reasonable price at hotel. Coffee is free, deserve your trying! Great morning good.
Had an unplanned detour in Austin and decided not to leave the hotel due to the craziness going on so we settled into G Bistro for dinner and breakfast the next day. Service was a little slow both times because only one server was working, but it was not overly disruptive and we were impressed with how much the server was managing at once. For dinner we shared the Steak Nachos, Wings, and Philly Fries enjoyed them quite a bit. My only gripe was that the wings were a little salty. We ordered the Breakfast Slider Trio and Create Your Breakfast and enjoyed these a lot! Everything was hot and fresh! Small gripe was the peppers and onions on the potatoes were a little crunchy/raw but I didn't mind too much. Possibly the best hotel food I've had as I am skeptical and prefer looking outside for food. Prices were surprisingly competitive too! One small note is that 18% gratuity is automatically included on the check. This isn't a big deal for us as we normally tip in that range but examine your bill so you don't accidentally double-tip!
Mrs. Texas and I are staying in a local Austin Holiday Inn as she has a very early flight out tomorrow, and this location is also close to my office as well. We decided to dine in as the traffic was horrible at check-in time. The dining area is very clean and the staff was very friendly. You get a 15% discount with a Yelp check-in which is very cool. Our waitress Lauren was totally awesome and she was spot on with every aspect of our dining experience. Thank You Lauren !!! They have somewhat of a limited menu selection but for the most part I think everyone could find something they like. Our meals were very good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed our dining experience very much. They also have a full bar that's open until 2 am. Worthy of a bookmark and a try if you're staying here, passing through, or you live or work near-by.
Nice hotel bar and restaurant with nice service and good food. We stayed there and had a couple of drinks for happy hour, which was a very good deal, 1/2 off for beer. Wife had a Mexican martini that unfortunately was not as good as last time. New bartender and didn't make it right, missing ingredients, and substituted cheap triple sec for very good Contreau. Kind of ruined it. So she changed to corona. Bartender was very Pleasent, only been there for 2&1/2 weeks so we went with the flow. Came down later for a club sandwich which was surprisingly good. Last bit of negativity, they automatically add a 18% gratuity. I'm not a fan of this as I feel it decentifies the server, which she was not, but also doesn't give me an opportunity to give why I think is a good tip of 20%.
Great place for really, really good late night food. In a Holiday Inn Express. No really, I mean it. Ok, I'll wait for you to stop laughing. Normally good food and Holiday Inn go together like squid goes with chocolate, but this place was one of the more pleasant surprises I ate at in Austin. We were watching some bands nearby and needed some food at 930pm. Looking on Yelp (what else would we use?), the only highly rated food places nearby were a few food trucks and a restaurant in the Holiday Inn. We wanted to sit down badly enough that we decided to risk disappointment and GI distress. Man were we glad we did! The good: the waitress, I think her name was Brittney, was very nice and welcoming. There weren't more than 2 other tables at that time of night, so she walked us through the menu. Everything was made on site including the ice cream. The restaurant itself is clean and open. There's a full bar. The menu has pretty good options for the vegetarian with us and for us carnivores as well. The sandwich I had was really good and the brownie waffle dessert with cookies and cream ice cream and hot fudge STILL HAUNTS MY DREAMS! The prices were reasonable, and the food was remarkably good. The bad: the reataurant is in Texas, and I'm in California. The mediocre: nothing Overall: This place would be my go to late might place if I lived anywhere nearby. It's probably best that I am not nearby because I would also weigh about 200 pounds more than I currently do because I would eat that dessert every day until I could no longer walk without assistance.
The G Bar and Bistro is located inside the Holiday Inn - Austin Airport hotel. I was a little weary about eating inside of our hotel, but it had been a long day of multiple delayed flights and we just needed to eat! At that hour, there were only a few people hanging out at the bar, so we took a seat at the counter too. The bartender was pretty attentive and we received our orders quickly. I opted to go with the Cowboy Club -- ham, cheese, over-easy egg, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes on toasted bread -- sounds amazing right? It was just as good as it sounds AND the sweet potato fries were so addicting.
